New Feature: Braves Debates

Debate is good. Not only does it force you to consider other arguments, but a compelling explanation makes you question your own argument. Sadly, debate is often lost in today’s world of twitter arguments and trolling. That’s why this week, we are going to try something a little new here at Outfield Fly Rule. Three individuals enter into a bit of a dispute. In the end, one will be left standing. Instead of trying to tear one another down personally, they’ll fight it out with carefully considered words, research, and a little humor. This is Braves Debates.

Here are the rules: each person gets a shot to present their case based on a predetermined order. When all have presented their case, each will be given a chance to argue in the form of rebuttals where they can attack the other choices to show why their choice is best. This will go for three rounds and with each round, the order is changed to allow each individual a chance to make his/her argument first. A judge will have the power to decide who wins each round and those verdicts will be detailed on the final page of the navigation below. When all three questions have been answered and verdicts have been presented, either one person will win a majority of the rounds or the judge will decide on the winner by choosing who made the best arguments throughout.

With all that said, let’s dive right into the first Braves Debates. Taking part this week will be three Outfield Fly Rule guys – co-founders Chris Jervis and Brent Blackwell along with minor league expert, Andy Harris. I’m Tommy Poe and I will be this week’s judge. I operate Walkoffwalk.net and am still confused by Westworld. I have come up with three questions for this week and with the aid of a random.org widget, here is the order we will go with this week for the first question: Andy starts followed by Chris and then Brent.

Disclaimer: Because of the nature of this exercise, positions may be argued that the participants may not actually believe themselves. In many cases, someone might be forced to argue against the position he actually holds personally as he tries to win the round.
